Whiplash Treatment
Whiplash is a neck injury caused by the head being thrown forward and back, most often in a rear-end collision. It strains the muscles, ligaments and joints of the neck.
Symptoms often start hours or days after the crash. Treatment restores neck motion gently, eases muscle spasm and rebuilds strength so the neck is not left stiff and weak. See our auto injuries page for what to do after an accident.
- Neck pain and stiffness
- Headaches at the base of the skull
- Pain in the shoulders and upper back
- Reduced range of motion

Whiplash FAQs
How long does whiplash last?
Many people improve within a few weeks. Some have symptoms that linger, especially without treatment, which is why early care helps.
Should I wear a neck brace?
Usually not for long. Gentle movement helps whiplash recover better than keeping the neck still, unless a doctor has prescribed a collar for a fracture.
What if I also hit my head?
Confusion, vomiting, memory problems or a worsening headache after a crash can mean a concussion. See a physician or go to the emergency room first.
